SLIGO MADE NO mistake on their trip to New York to pull the starters gun for the 2012 All Ireland Championship.
The visitors ran out comfortable winners on a score of 3-21 to 0-6.
Stephen Coen grabbed the first of his two goals after just 12 minutes and New York trailed by 1-3 before they registered their first score of the game .
Coen and Adrian Marren (0-6) kept the scoreboard ticking for Sligo and they led 1-10 to 0-3 at half time.
The home side included three New York natives, but Kildare man, Eoghan Carew, finished as the home team’s leading scorer with three points from midfield. However, that tally was matched by Mark Breheny and the Yeats County were as good as home by the time Pat Hughes netted in after 63 minutes.
Coen grabbed his second of the day in the dying moments, bringing his tally for the day to an imperious 2-4.
