On Saturday, the Australian produced this incredible pass to set up a Napolioni Nalaga try at a crucial time in Clermont’s 36-29 derby win over Brive. Having replaced Mike Delany at out-half for the second half, James also kicked three penalties to guide his team to a nervy win, extending their winning streak at the Parc des Sports Marcel Michelin to a phenomenal 66 games.
This glimpse of instinctive skill from James was made all the more impressive by the fact that he had so little time to spot Nalaga on his left and decide how to find him. Now 32, the Clermont pivot is out of contract at the end of the season but the club are hoping he will sign a new deal in the coming weeks.
