Brendan Rodgers has hit out at those criticising Raheem Sterling

The Liverpool boss has also confirmed who he will start in goal against Arsenal.

BRENDAN RODGERS HAS reacted angrily to the criticism Raheem Sterling has received this season and confirmed that Brad Jones will remain as goalkeeper this weekend.

Rodgers was speaking at a televised press conference this morning ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds manager has come under a lot of pressure recently due to his side’s poor performances that have seen them slip to 11th in the Premier League table but can’t understand the criticism given to Raheem Sterling by the likes of former Manchester United defender Phil Neville.

Neville was recently quoted as saying that Sterling has failed to perform despite earning a lucrative new contract.

“Raheem is an outstanding talent,” Rodgers said. “It is incredible the stick that the kid has received. He has been outstanding for us, wherever he has played.”

Sterling is not the only Liverpool player to have come under fire in recent times with the sub-par performances of Simon Mignolet leading to his removal from the starting line-up in favour of Brad Jones.

Rodgers also confirmed today that that situation would stay the same, answering the question posed with a simple answer of: “no change”.

Last night’s one-match ban and £25,000 fine for Mario Balotelli after his recent anti-Semitic Instagram post was another topic of conversation but Rodgers was quick to put any speculation to bed.

“We accept the ban, that is fairly clear,” he said.

The Liverpool boss finished up by saying that he hasn’t even thought about adding to his squad during the January transfer window.
