Bloody Bank Holidays, if you’re not doing something, you always feel like you should be. So we’ve compiled a few ideas of things to do over the long weekend.

Go to Galway. If you haven’t heard, there’s a bit of shin dig going on out west called the Galway Races. Although the festival kicked off last weekend it concludes this weekend, and if you don’t make it to Ballybrit to see the horses you’ll find plenty to do in Galway city.

Waterford has the Spraoi Festival – described as “an annual riot” – riot you say? Not for me. Oh wait, it’s an “an annual riot of colour, energy and excitement” – ahh.

In Killarney they’re holding the annual Summerfest where you’re find everything from crazy golf and canoeing to Sharon Shannon, The High Kings and balloon modelling.

Also in Killarney is the Three Irish Open, where you’ll see some of the world’s top golfers battle it out.

There are still tickets for the Castlepalooza music festival in Tullamore. Mercury Rev, Fionn Regan and Norman Jay feature in the lineup.

There’s plenty more music in Cork. The Michelstown Independence music festival sees White Lies, Alabama 3, Jape and Cork band Fred play over the weekend. And closer to Cork City, you can check out a live performance of Mamma Mia in the marquee.

And if you’re in Dublin and very brave, you can take down the back seats in car and pack your measuring tape because IKEA is celebrating its first birthday. The Swedish furniture store has a number of offers to celebrate including 25% off certain items and a number of €1 offers. Don’t forget to check out the meatballs.

In sport, Croke Park is playing host to all four All-Ireland football quarter finals. Kerry v Down and Tyrone v Dublin on Saturday, Cork v Roscommon and Meath v Kildare on Sunday. Tickets are €35 from the GAA.

The Aviva stadium also plays host to an interest clash. A combined team of Munster and Connaught take on Leinster and Ulster. Conster vs Lulster if you will. Tickets for the clash are unfortunately sold out.

And if all else fails and you just want to kick back and relax why not go to lovely Leitrim… we hear its quiet down there!
