DUBLIN BOSS ANTHONY DALY has until tomorrow night before deciding whether or not to risk All-Star midfielder Liam Rushe in Sunday’s NHL Division 1A opener against Galway.
Rushe staked his claim for a place in the Dubs’ starting XV when he came through UCD’s Fitzgibbon Cup defeat against UCC without any problems yesterday, scoring 1-1 in the process.
The game was only Rushe’s second appearance since he learned that a wrist injury which he picked up late last year was in fact a broken bone.
The St Patrick’s of Palmerston clubman made his return to action for UCD last week, but then pulled out of the weekend’s M Donnelly Interprovincial Series when doctors advised him to start wearing his protective cast again.
The news of Rushe’s fitness will come as a boost to Daly, who is already without David “Dotsy” O’Callaghan for Sunday’s trip to Salthill.
O’Callaghan returned to training earlier this week following a bout of pneumonia, but Daly said that he expects to be without the forward for the opening weeks of the league campaign.
Dublin will name their team for Sunday’s game tomorrow evening.
