THE SUPER RUGBY season kicked off earlier with the Highlanders stunning the Hurricanes 14-9 in Wellington.

And All Black star Ma’a Nonu watched most of the second half from the bench after this shoulder saw him walk.

Rank outsiders going into the contest, the Southerners were deserved winners with 19-year-old Lima Sopoaga scoring the only try.

It was the Highlanders’ first win in six matches over their more fancied New Zealand rivals.
