A MAN HAS been charged with a public order offence following a protest which disrupted the annual Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race yesterday.
The 158th running of the historic rivalry was stopped mid-race when Trenton Oldfield, 35, swam out of in front of the boats and forced organisers to stop the crews.
The race was delayed for 31 minutes as an RNLI crew removed Oldfield from the water. Cambridge went on to win comfortably when the race was eventually re-started.
Oldfield, who described himself as an anti-elitism protester, was arrested and charged under the Public Order Act. He is due to appear in court in London on 23 April, BBC reports.
