LIVERPOOL WILL HOLD a minute’s applause ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match with Manchester United as part of celebrations to honour one of their most famous managers, the legendary Bill Shankly.
Monday marks the 100th anniversary of Shankly’s birth on 2 September 1913. The Scot, who guided Liverpool out of the Second Division and established them as one of English football’s dominant powers, died in 1981 at the age of 68.
The centenary celebrations will include a special fan mosaic in the Kop as well as the creation of a new Shankly museum at Anfield which will display memorabilia from his 15 years in charge of the Merseyside club.
“The name Bill Shankly is, and always will be, synonymous with Liverpool Football Club,” managing director Ian Ayre said. “He laid the foundations to enable the club to grow to what it is today.
“We continue to live and breathe those values he created over 40 years ago throughout our Liverpool family and it’s important that we give our fans the opportunity to celebrate this important milestone with us.”
