Green Thumb/Red Thumb: It’s the week in comments

Your thoughts on Jim Gavin, Roy Keane, Ian Madigan’s hair and much, much more.

JUST WHEN WE thought it couldn’t get any better, you go and give us arguably the most fantastic week of comments yet.

Take a bow and read on!

A jubilant Ian Madigan spoke to us following’s Leinster’s emphatic victory last week, but at least one reader still has reservations about the young out-half.

“It seems after all my shouting at the tv that young man still hasn’t gotten a hair cut. You win this round Madigan…”

West Ham appear to be having regrets about buying Andy Carroll, but one reader — presumably a Liverpool fan — wants a stipulation in place.

“No givezies backzies!”

The article on the topless protesters who interrupted Trap’s reunion with Strunz attracted a fair few comments, but there was one that unquestionably stood out.

“My favourite Qatar player is Eddie Van Halen.”

In response to the article on Jim Gavin being named Manager of the Year, one reader claimed that anyone could manage Dublin to success on account of their exorbitant population, however another gave the following response:

“China should win next year’s World Cup so, by beating India in the final.”

After Luis Suarez was belatedly awarded his 15th goal of the season, one reader was determined that certain individuals were made aware of the news.

“Could somebody please let the good people of the Fantasy Football League know of this wonderful news. Every point is precious.”

Most readers would have been hugely impressed with the video of gymnasts performing an incredible seesaw, but at least one felt it was more than a little familiar looking.

“I’ve seen lads do that with a few vodkas in them on Camden street many a weekend…”

Our recent articles on concussion have provoked a significant response, with one reader describing how he’s had first-hand experience of the injury.

“Having had 2 concussions in 12 months myself I’m pleased to see this issue being taken more seriously in Ireland.. I’m lucky in that I play a sport where concussion recognition and appropriate action is good but there are many other sports where people are going back into games clearly concussed and risk of second impact.. The recent NFL lawsuits are forcing the likes of rugby to sit up, take note and start addressing the situation.”

The recent documentary on Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira proved hugely popular, as the comments on the article show, with at least one of you demanding a sequel.

“Forget Anchorman2, the sequel we all want to see is Keane v Fergie in Best of Enemies 2.”

The documentary in question also caused some controversy, with Keane leaving both Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs out of his all-time Man United XI, but one reader gave a well-argued defence of his choices.

“Beckham during his United years was truly the real deal. It wasn’t until he left United did he become over hyped and reliant on his prior reputation. But if you judge him solely on his performances for Man U, then he is truly well deserving of a place in Keane’s best 11 IMO.

“Paul Ince was also a top, top player when he was at United. Ince and Keane formed a partnership that was absolutely devastating in the early years of the Premier League. This was also when Keane was a lot more attacking (similar to Gerrard in his early twenties), then when Ince left for Inter Milan, Keane was shifted to a more defensive role.”

It was confirmed this week that Graham Geraghty would play in the Sigerson Cup at the age of 40, prompting one reader to recall a chance encounter with the star.

“My picture is of me and Graham. I’m dressed up as Rowdy Roddy Piper. Graham didn’t get it. Pity, as he was the equivalent of a wrestling villian to the Hill for so many years. Ledge!”
