WITH NEWS THIS week that One Direction member Louis Tomlinson signed a ‘non-contract’ deal to play with Doncaster Rovers, here in TheScore.ie Towers we couldn’t help but wonder about all the footballers who fancied they were just as good behind the mic as they were on the field.
With that in mind, and because you’ve time to listen this Bank Holiday Monday without the boss asking why you’re doing the Anfield Rap, we’ve put together a list of the ones who pulled it off, and the ones who really should have been unplugged.
The Good
New Order feat. John Barnes – World in Motion
YouTube: RhinoUK
With or without Barnes, this is the kind of song that sticks in the memory for all the right reasons.
Revelation Time feat. Rudd Gullit – South Africa
YouTube: kozmik1000
A footballer with a conscience always deserves a place on the good list and the Dutch star’s involvement with this anti-apartheid song gets the thumbs up from us.
Liverpool FC - Anfield Rap
YouTube: TheSpionKop
The song opens with “Liverpool FC is hard as hell, United Tottenham Arsenal” and continues in that impressive style.
The Bad
Youri Djorkaeff - Vivre Dans Ta Luminere
YouTube: Julien Brossard
This, from the former Bolton and France star, could have won the Eurovision, if only he’d had the good sense to enter it. That’s how bad it is.
Kevin Keegan – Head Over Heels in Love
YouTube: fritz51320
And you thought ‘I’d love it if we beat them’ was Keegan’s most embarrassing appearance in front of the camera?
Terry Venables – If I Can Dream
YouTube: azda2592
If we could dream, we’d dream this atrocity out of existence.
The What Has Been Heard Can Never Be Unheard
Glenn Hoddle & Chris Waddle – Diamond Lights
YouTube: rignellio
Wonder where the inspiration for Jedward came from? Look no further.
Andy Cole – Outstanding
YouTube: Adam Doherty
If ever a song deserved to be investigated by trading standards for false advertising, it was this Andrew Cole effort.
Johan Cruyff – Oei, Oei, Oei, Dat Was Me Weer Een Loei
YouTube: sixtiesbrowser
This almost falls into the soooo awful it’s great category. Almost.
Fair play to them
@Crpytoalchol: exactly and fair play to the 42 for covering athletics. hopefully we’ll see alot more great performances and more articles as the u20 world championships start tomorrow in Finland.
Young people of Ireland take note this could be you congratulations
Spectacular effort! Well done girls! They’re pushing the boxers for achievements. Tokyo will be too soon but the Olympics will be interesting in 6 years.
They read deal, unfortunately they will be tempted with scholarships from US universities and we’ll never see them again. Let’s hope let’s hope Dave mahedy new track can inspire them to go to university in Limerick
@Martin Sinnott: even if they go to usa university, that do not mean they will not run for Ireland, remember Ronnie Delaney Eamonn Coughlan etc went to university where they got the BEST coaching & were medal winners for Ireland
@James_665: yeah , I agree , that’s a ridiculous statement . What does worry me is Australia will offer O Sullivan’s nice package and the UK might offer the sprinters a relocation package .. but the ones who go to Villanova etc are the ones who have brought home the medals at senior level .
Very proud of our wonderful athletes. Great to see them all recognized as a team.
Athletics is in a great place right now, those athelets will go on to be world beaters, Congrats All ♧
