OVER THE COURSE of the preceding decade, Benny Dunne has been a mainstay of Tipperary hurling, representing the county in both the National Hurling League and the All-Ireland Championship.
This evening, however, the 31-year-old released a statement formally announcing his retirement from competition at the highest level.
Praising his colleagues and management, Dunne described being afforded the opportunity to represent Tipperary as “a huge privilege”. He also paid tribute to his family and the club, Toomevara, for their unwavering support.
Responding to the announcement, the Tipperary County Board thanked a player who “never sought the limelight but worked quietly in the best interest of the team at all times”.
