THE ANDORRAN FA have made an official request to UEFA to move their Euro 2012 qualifier with with Ireland to Barcelona.

“The FAI will notify fans when Uefa make a decision,” an FAI statement reads.

The request was made after Abbotstown officals met their Andorran counterparts and made clear how many Irish fans intended to travel for the fixture on 7 October.

Spain play the Czech Republic on the same night in Prague.

  • Didn’t this happen the last time we played Andorra (away)? The Barcelona B Team’s stadium iirc.

    • That’s correct. Fat chance getting tickets though. If as little as 18.16 percent of the Andorran population show interest in attending, the traveling fans will be forced to watch in the nearest Irish pub.

  • The fact that Spain is playing that night is irrelevant due to the low support that the Spanish team has in Catalonia. The international match played in Barcelona with the highest attendance ever was Catalonia-Brasil in 2002. 98,000 spectators.
And when Andorra plays its matches in Barcelona it normally does so at Mini Estadi, which is beside Camp Nou and that it is deemed to be demolished in the near future.

  • The knocking down of the Mini Estadi has been put off for the moment due to the financial crisis in Spain. Del Bosque would like the Spanish team to start playing in the Camp Nou again and there are plans for it to happen soon.
