THE WEST INDIES team bus has been attacked by Bangladesh supporters after the home side suffered a massive defeat in the Cricket World Cup.
Stones were hurled at the bus after the game in Mirpur, after local fans mistakenly took the West Indies bus for that of their own team, NDTV Sports reports.
Earlier, Bangladesh had slumped to a nine wicket defeat after posting their lowest ever one day total- a miserable 58 runs. The West Indies cruised to victory inside 30 overs, with opening batsman Chris Gayle passing 8,000 international one-day runs in the process.
Moments after the attack, Gayle tweeted about the incident.

The bus was on its way back to the team hotel when the attack took place. Although no one was hurt, two windows were cracked , according to the team’s media manager, Philip Spooner.

Gayle appeared to be quite rattled by events however, tweeting again shortly after his original post.

The incident once again raises issues about player security in the subcontinent. Exactly two years ago the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by gunmen in Lahore, Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of six policemen and two civilians.
Imtiaz Ahmed, deputy commissioner of police in Dhaka, said the fans had mistaken the West Indies bus for the Bangladesh bus. “The fans thought it was the Bangladeshi team bus and they hurled stones at it,” he told AFP.
Ireland are competing in Group B alongside Bangladesh and the West Indies. They play India on Sunday.
