Ballyboden crowned Dublin hurling champions with win over Lucan

The winners go forward to a provincial semi-final against Mount Leinster Rangers next weekend.

Ballyboden St-Enda’s 0-13
Lucan Sarsfields 0-10

BALLYBODEN ST-ENDA’S are Dublin senior hurling champions once more after eking out a three-point win in Parnell Park in this afternoon’s final.

Opponents Lucan Sarsfields were seeking their first title in their first ever final appearance.

But is was Ballyboden who triumphed for the sixth time in seven years and now go forward to take on Carlow’s Mount Leinster Rangers in the semi-final of the AIB Leinster senior club hurling semi-final next weekend.

Ballyboden St-Enda’s needed to dig deep as they were reduced to fourteen men during the second-half and they sought to protect the 0-8 to 0-5 lead they had established at half-time.

Kevin O’Reilly impressed during the opening period for a Lucan Sarsfields team that contained this year’s Leinster senior hurling winning captain Johnny McCaffrey and Peter Kelly who had received an Allstar award on Friday night in Croke Park.

But Ballyboden St-Enda’s, who had a plethora of inter-county players in their ranks, finished the half strongly with Niall McMorrow and Paul Ryan amongst their scorers.

McCaffrey cut the gap to 0-11 to 0-9 at one juncture during the closing half yet the experience of Ballyboden St-Enda’s proved crucial as the club who did five-in-a-row between 2007 and 2011, claimed silverware once more.

Leinster is wide open with the Kilkenny Champs already out, although the standard seems high in the remaining counties

Yeah, it’s there for them alright. As a dub, I’d usually cheer on any dub club, but can’t with boden. Saw their game against Crokes, and there were a couple of seriously dirty strokes. Keaney broke Rory o’carroll’s leg, then used the butt of the hurl to hit him in the mid region after a couple minutes…

Give over I would say Boden are one of the less dirty teams in the dub champo, admittedly only saw them play twice this year but any dub champo matches I’ve seen they wouldn’t be the worst by a long way! Good luck to them in Leinster

Listen John, just thought they took an overly aggressive/intimidating approach that day. Would agree that’s not their reputation, but was taken aback that day. You’d have to agree, that was a couple of dirty strokes. Understand he made some nasty comments as the lad lay there, stricken.

Fair enough Martin. To be honest the game didn’t stand out as overly dirty that day, and had heard nothing about what was or was not said so can’t really comment on that. Be disappointing if its true though

Low scoring final but don’t suppose Boden will care it wasn’t a classic. Still a good year for Lucan reaching their first county final.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TVIxgoMFEeY Can see it on this after about 10 seconds. First stroke is hard to see, but that’s what broke his leg…

What an absolute disgrace that Conal Keaney broke someone’s leg and can get away with it. I’ve lost so much respect for him

What an utter disgrace that he broke someone’s leg and got away with it.

If D. Connolly did that he’d be hung out to dry
