Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead – FIA

Formula One’s governing body say they are happy with the security measures in place ahead of the race on 22 April.

FORMULA ONE’S GOVERNING body has confirmed the Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead as planned on 22 April.

There had been speculation the race would be cancelled due to ongoing civil unrest in the gulf state.

Riots and violence have been continuing since anti-government protests started in the country in February 2011.

Last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled because of safety concerns and it had been suggested next weekend’s race would suffer the same fate.

However the FIA have released a statement saying they are happy with the security measures in place and the race will go ahead as scheduled.

“Away from the public eye, the FIA has received regular security briefings from the most senior diplomatic officials based in the Kingdom, as well as from other independent experts,” the statement read.

The statement added the FIA were ”satisfied that all the proper security measures are in place for the running of a Formula 1 world championship event.”

Nothing stands in the way of money, nothing. Not even misery and oppression.

I may add that those “security measures” mean that quite a few dissenters have been silenced so that the world can enjoy the sight of fast cars and the odd blonde on the stands.

Won’t be watching another F1 race again if this goes ahead. Amazing the difference between Syria and Bahrain, both revolutions started at the same, one in a pro west government and the other in Iranians ally. Syria is given guns, mercenaries and money and Bahrains revolutionaries are crushed with the help of the Saudis and the west turns a blind eye. Sums up the world pretty much right there.

Im a huge F1 fan and Im remaining neutral on this race taking place. However I would agree that this has damaged F1. I read here talk about boycotts of F1. If ye are serious about this how many people commenting here use the Vodafone network. Well you can cancell your contract or change your network so lets see how serious you are. And thats just one sponsor. No redbull & vodkas I take it.

I meant….. Who gives a shit if the teams are going to meet…’ responding to a comment by someone else !! It’s shocking the race is going ahead but then as someone else commented.. money talks … Do the teams have any conscience at all? The people need the support and the support is to boycot the race….it’s a rich mans sport, I do like watching it though but NOT on this occasion
