Back strain means Kilbane's a doubt

The evergreen defender is Giovanni Trapattoni’s only injury concern ahead of Ireland’s crucial qualifier against Slovakia.

KEVIN KILBANE IS Ireland’s sole injury worry ahead of Friday night’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovakia at the Aviva Stadium.

The 34-year-old, who is currently on loan at Derby County, sat out training in Malahide on Tuesday but is expected to be available for selection.

Otherwise, Ireland’s assistant manager Marco Tardelli confirmed that team boss Giovanni Trapattoni has no other major injury worries ahead of the crucial fixture – with Russia next up on Tuesday.

Shay Given and Robbie Keane have yet to train with the squad but are due to join up with the Irish camp on Tuesday evening – Given from Aston Villa after receiving treatment on a back injury and Keane from LA Galaxy.

Richard Dunne, Shane Long and Sean St. Ledger took part in the squad’s latest session – having sat out training on Monday – and fitness concerns over John O’Shea and Aiden McGeady, who have had little game time in recent weeks, have been allayed somewhat after Trapattoni confirmed that both players have been able to take part in sessions in recent days.
