No matter where you are in the country, there are plenty of fun runs and family days taking place nearby over the coming days.

Muck Off 2014

What’s it all about?

After the success of last year’s inaugural event, Muck Off returns this weekend. Held on a 150-acre parkland estate in Blackfort, Puckane near Nenagh in Tipperary, the cross-country challenge caters for all abilities and fitness with a kids event, 5k walk, teams runs, a 10k run and a bubble soccer tournament all taking place on the day. There will also be a live SHAVE OR DYE event on the day, where people can get involved and raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

DLR Bay 10k Road Race

Where: Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin

When: Monday, 4 August

What’s it all about?

Set along the Dun Laoghaire sea front, the well-established annual 10k run takes in Seapoint, Monkstown, Glenageary, Killiney, and Sandycove before finishing near Dun Laoghaire Town Hall.

Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon

Where: Tralee, Co Kerry

When: Saturday, 2 August

What’s it all about?

For the ultimate fitness enthusiast, the Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon offers a real test of endurance.  The start time is 6am on Saturday morning and the event goes through Kerryhead, Ballyheigue, Causeway, Ardfert, and Fenit.

Bóthar na Naomh Duathlon Challenge

Where: Leitrim

When: Saturday, 2 August

What’s it all about?

Cloone, Co Leitrim hosts Bóthar na Naomh Duathlon Challenge for the first time tomorrow. The race consists of a 2.5k trail run, a 20k cycle and a 5km trail run through a number of obstacles.

Organisers are catering for all different levels of fitness while you can also compete as a team. For more information, contact Mark Solon on 0868720075. Registration takes place at Cloone Community Centre at 8.30am on the day.

Breffni Challenge 2014

Where: Cavan

When: Saturday, 2 August

What’s it all about?

Runners can walk, jog, run or cycle 5k, 13k or a 20k between Cavan, Ballinagh and Arva to raise funds for charity and will be met with a BBQ and live entertainment at the finish line in Market Square, Arva.
