AUDIO: Paddy Crerard loses the rag on Five Live

The former Manchester United player was responding to a question about the Manchester derby coin throwing incident.

PADDY CRERAND HAS responded angrily to suggestions that Rio Ferdinand incited the Manchester City fan that threw a coin at his eye at the end of Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

The Manchester United defender needed lengthy treatment for a cut above the eye and Crerard, ranting on BBC Radio Five Live, was disgusted at any suggestion that he was responsible for his own injury.

“Who said that? That is ridiculous,” Crerand said, after interviewer Chris Warburton claimed that people had texted and called the show to say that players should tone down goal celebrations.

“What planet do they live on? That is absolute garbage. How many people have phoned you up? One, two, three? How many? Why make a statement like that if you haven’t got (the number of listeners) to hand…if you haven’t got the evidence?”

Ferdinand had been celebrating Robin van Persie’s late winner when the incident occurred.

At one point Crerand asked Warburton: “Is this a publicity stunt? Ask me a sensible question and don’t talk stupid, asking me daft questions about whether fans should celebrate or not.”

I dont think Paddy got the question, but what is very important here is weather Ferdinand celebrated in front of the City fans or not. From the clips shown by Sky its hard to tell, so people jumping to conclusions on either side who were not at the game should think about that.

If he did in fact celebrate in front of the City fans and if he did I think it would be fair to say he was goading them than I think Ferdinand should take some of the blame. I’m not say he deserved it, no one does, but to do what he did ,if he did all would be playing with fire in my opinion.

Crenard should even review what he said himself about Suarez after his celebration in the derby, if Ferdinand celebrated in front of City fans, well he would look quite the hypocrite indeed.

Both sets of fans were behind that goal with the line of stewards/police between them. Rio and all the United players were celebrating in front of their own, but this was still only yards from the city fans.

I think you’re right just seen some pictures that clearly show Ferdinand was cheering into the United end of that goal.

Ye I agree he didn’t get the question. However I do think he sounded a bit pissed. I know he is hard to decipher on radio anyway but he sounded funny!!! Legend.
