GIF: Athlone's James O'Brien scores a brilliant 20-yard lobbed own-goal

The SSE Airtricity League Premier Division’s bottom club can’t catch a break at the moment.

HAVING BEEN PROMOTED to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division as last season’s First Division champions, Athlone Town have found life in the top tier tough so far.

Mick Cooke’s side have no points to show from their opening six games of the 2014 campaign and have shipped 17 goals already — including three against Bohemians last night.

The most bizarre goal they have conceded yet arrived when midfielder James O’Brien attempted to intercept a Bohs throw-in but inadvertently lobbed his own goalkeeper Paul Skinner from outside the box.

Just back from it. Was a seriously impressive performance from Na Fianna…..battled for every ball in packs, were stronger, worked the ball around well and were able to score from all ranges. So disappointed for Sars…..just never got going. Was surprised they kept popping over points and not even trying to work any sort of goal scoring chances right up to the end. The barren spell continues for Cork at this level unfortunately.
