Ardscoil Rís keep Harty hopes alive with defeat of Bandon

The Limerick side booked their place in the Munster colleges decider.

Ardscoil Rís (Limerick) 2-14

Hamilton HS (Bandon) 1-4

ARDSCOIL RÍS REMAIN on course for a third Dr Harty Cup title in five years after they got the better of Bandon’s Hamilton High School in today’s semi-final in Mallow.

In a game played in very difficult conditions, the Limerick side had midfielder Ronan Lynch to thank for a tour de force as he scored 1-9, including the crucial second goal in the 44th minute to cancel out Michael Cahalane’s effort from a few minutes earlier.

With the strong wind in the first half, Ardscoil acquitted themselves far better than their opponents, with Lynch and his namesake Cian impressing. Colin Crehan’s 10th-minute goal gave them a 1-3 to 0-1 lead, and while Luke Meade excelled in a sweeping role for Hamilton they could not get any joy at the other end of the field.

Cahalane’s goal, after a fumble by Ardscoil goalkeeper Páraic O’Loughlin, brought Hamilton back to within four points, 1-8 to 1-4, with 19 minutes left, but Ardscoil more or less assured themselves of victory when Lynch’s 65 was allowed to travel to the net.

They now await either St Francis College Rochestown or Doon’s Scoil na Tríonóide Naofa in the final, their semi-final having been postponed today.
