ANTHONY NASH WILL captain the Cork senior hurlers for the 2015 season.
Manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy has confirmed the appointment of goalkeeper Nash after last year’s captain Patrick Cronin asked to step down from the role to concentrate on his own playing career.
Barry-Murphy accepted Cronin’s request ‘with regret’ and was keen to emphasise ‘significant contribution made by Patrick to Cork hurling, leading Cork to the All-Ireland final in 2013 and annexing Munster title in 2014′.
30 year-old Nash will lead out Cork for the first time in tonight’s challenge game against UCC for the Canon O’Brien Cup. Nash made his senior championship debut for Cork against Waterford in 2006 but didn’t become a regular in the team until the 2012 season.
The Kanturk player’s recent exploits have seen him win Allstar awards in 2012 and 2013. Nash also won Munster medals for Cork at minor, U21 and senior level along with four All-Ireland intermediate medals and was in goal on the UCC team that won the 2009 Fitzgibbon Cup.
