Poll: Who should be the 2013 Allstar hurling goalkeeper?

Anthony Nash, Patrick Kelly and Gary Maguire are all in the running.

THE GAA/GPA Hurling Allstar awards for the 2013 season are set to be announced next Thursday with the winners honoured at a banquet in Croke Park on Friday November 8th.

The nominees for the awards sponsored by Opel were announced in early October and we want to know who you think should be honoured for their 2013 exploits.

We start today with the three nominees for the position of goalkeeper.

Last year’s winner, Kanturk club man Anthony Nash from Cork, is again in the running as is the 2011 Allstar goalkeeper Gary Maguire from Dublin and Ballyboden St-Enda’s.

Clare’s All-Ireland winning netminder Patrick Kelly from Inagh-Kinamona is also in the frame.

But who would you pick as the number 1?

Poll Results:

Gary Maguire (Dublin) (1038)
Anthony Nash (Cork) (829)
Patrick Kelly (Clare) (309)

Why bother asking? Has to be Nash, nobody else comes anywhere near close!

Obviously the Dubs are out in force voting according to the poll , Nash should win it by a land slide. The other two cant come close besides Nash hit 4-9 in the championship there’s forwards who wouldn’t hit that in two years of hurling.

Ha well this poll has certainly shown what county the score’s readers are from! It’ll be Nash, best keeper around by a mile.

Nash conceded five goals in the All-Ireland final, so it could sway the vote, ultimately allstars are chosen based on the more important moments or games.

Im not saying Nash won’t get it, but conceding five in the final isn’t typical of an allstar goalkeeper? I look at in in a simple way when it comes scoring keepers. Did he score more than he conceded, he conceded five and scored one in the final game.

Conceded 5 yes, could do nothing about any of them though. The Cork full back line picked the best day ever to have their worst game all year.

Agree, has to be Nash, let in 5 goals in the final. Oops.., Nearly forgot, goalies are supposed to STOP goals, not let them in! So, should be Maguire despite his lapse in concentration at the end of the semi. Poll is correct.

If the award is for hurling goalkeeper then it’s only the goalkeeping that the player should be judged on. Not for any scoring he may contribute. That being said Pa Kelly would be the stand out choice.. Excellent league and championship campaign…

Pa Kelly decision making in the first final almost cost Clare the game his two bursts out the field ended in one point for cork and a second that came very close to a point

For Pa Kelly to take that body shot from Nash and then save another he totally deserves it , Nash had a brilliant year made some super saves and scores but clare exposed his weekness in the replay and now cork are screwed next year

Any keeper who lets in 5 goals in An Ireland final doesn’t deserve an All Star despite what he did for the rest of the year. Cummins, Fitzhenry & Fitzgerald would never have left in 5.

I just hope that the all stars are given to those who deserve them.. Ive a feeling they will give the munster chsmpions limerick one. In my opinion they were close in a couple positions but dont drserve one.

Nash for me, followed by Maguire and then Kelly.

I’m biased but Nicky Quaid definitely deserves a mention. Had an outstanding year. His two saves against Tipp were of the highest quality.
