Anfield Cat - renamed 'Shankly' - needs a new home

The feline, who shot to fame after bounding onto the Anfield turf last week, is being cared for at a rescue centre in Liverpool.

HE FOUND FAME on the hallowed turf of Anfield and has since carved out quite a following on Twitter but the story of the Anfield Cat is not over yet. He needs a new home.

Having captured the imagination of Kopites and football fans with his brief cameo during the Liverpool – Spurs game at Anfield just over a week ago, the cat formerly known as ‘Kenny’ has since ended up at an animal rescue centre in the Merseyside suburb of Formby.

Now named after another famous Liverpool boss, the legendary Bill Shankly, the tabby is in residence Freshfield’s Animal Rescue Centre in Formby.

‘Shankly’ has undergone medical treatment and is being cared for by staff after seemingly roaming wild around the streets of Liverpool before finding fame at Anfield. Staff are now hoping to find him a suitable home.

It has been established that ‘Shankly’ was curled up inside cones in Anfield before he emerged onto the field 11 minutes into the Premier League game last week. He forced the game to be halted briefly before he scampered off the field.

“He’s just an adorable gentleman to be honest, he’s so lovely,” Freshfield’s assistant Kathryn Gibbs told LFC TV.

Meanwhile, ‘Shankly’ continues to amass quite the following on Twitter where nearly 60,000 people are now following his tweets about football and his own status.

“So people are trying to find me a new place to live? has anyone asked chelsea? they kindly took Torres of our hands,” he tweeted earlier this week.

Funny that because he shook Welbecks hand. Then again, I’m sure Welbeck never called Suarez’s sister a whore unlike someone else
