THE CAT WHICH became an internet sensation after it ran onto the field during a Liverpool – Tottenham game at Anfield on Monday has been indentified.
The homeless tabby shot to fame after he bounded onto the pitch 11 minutes into the Premier League game, heading straight for the Tottenham box before he left the pitch and was taken into the arms of the Anfield stewards.
Now it has emerged that the cat is regularly seen roaming on the streets around Anfield with local residents knowing it by different names.
According to MailOnline, former Anfield steward Darren Eden claims the pitch invader is the offspring of his own pet cat Pako – named after former Reds assistant manager Pako Ayesteran.
He said that he regularly puts out bowls of milk for the cat, who bares a striking resemblance to Pako, and has named him ‘Kenny’ after the current Reds manager Kenny Dalglish.
However, another resident, Terry Riley, says he knows the tabby as Socks, saying that “there ain’t much to say about Socks”, according to Metro.
The cat has found Twitter fame with a parody account – @AnfieldCat – now having over 50,000 followers and tweeting regularly about football matters.
“Theres not a cat in hells chance I will be the next england manager, just want to concentrate on my form on the pitch,” he said on Wednesday following the resignation of Fabio Capello.
In his brief apperance on Monday night he already got past more defenders that stewart downing has all season.
