NICOLAS ANELKA’S FUTURE at West Brom is unclear after reports emerged this afternoon that he had retired.
Sky Sports were claiming that the French striker, who joined the Baggies just 49 days ago, had walked out of training this afternoon having told members of staff that he was retiring from football.
However, West Brom have since released a statement revealing that he has been permission to leave on compassionate grounds and will miss this weekend’s Premier League game against Everton.
“West Bromwich Albion can confirm that Nicolas Anelka will not be involved in Saturday’s game at Everton,” the statement reads.
“The club have excused the striker from club duty on compassionate grounds.”
It is believed that the one of the player’s agents may have died but Anelka’s future at West Brom remains uncertain.
