YELLOW JERSEY CONTENDER Andy Schleck has pulled out of this year’s Tour de France due to injuries suffered in last week’s Criterium du Dauphine race, according to his family.

Schleck was among the favourites for the 98th edition, which will begin in Liege, Belgium on 30 June and ends in Paris on 22 July, but will take no part after being diagnosed with a pelvis fracture in recent days.

The RadioShack climbing specialist, a three-time runner-up in the world’s premier cycling event, had recently been crowned the 2010 champion following the disqualification of Spain’s Alberto Contador for doping offences.

  • Andy and Frank Schlek are from Luxembourg, not Belgium.
Cycling has rapidly risen to be my number 1 Spectator sport since i began cycling everywhere myself.
It is slowly recovering from decades of drug abuse and seemed to have a 100% clean field at the tour last year where the feats of Evans, Voeckler, Rollendts were of a normal athlete, unlike the procession tours of Armstrong and Contador.
Anyways just wanted to say i love the patriotic views this site beholds in its functioning but when cycling is one of your featured sports it doesnt get the same treatment. Currently Nicholas Roche is showing great from in the tour de Suisse and is 5th on GC (Great news with the Tour only 2 weeks away). Yet all we hear is that Peter Sagan is romping away with stage victories.
Hope you guys have big plans for the Tour.
