FOR THE FIRST time since October 2006, there is a new UFC middleweight champion after Chris Weidman defeated Anderson Silva in Las Vegas.

The legendary Brazilian taunted his opponent several times by keeping his hands down by his side and, in the second round, got caught by a left hook from Weidman – ending his 16-fight unbeaten record.

“I felt I was destined for this,” New Yorker Weidman said afterwards. “I imagined it so many times, but it still feels surreal.”

“Chris Weidman tonight is the best,” added Silva. “He’s the new champion. He has my respect.”
