Amir Khan gets his rematch with Lamont Peterson

Golden Boy Promotion chief executive says the WBA has at last given into his calls for a another fight.

WELL, HE’S GOT what he wanted.

Amir Khan has been granted a rematch with Lamont Peterson by the World Boxing Association.

The British boxer’s promoter, Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy Promotion chief executive says the WBA has at last given into his calls for a another fight.

You’ll remember, Khan lost both his WBA and IBF titles in a controversial split decision defeat in Peterson’s Washington DC hometown on December 10. Khan was docked two points by the referee for pushing and afterwards he queried the presence of a ‘mystery man’ at ringside, next to the judges’ supervisor.

“I’m thrilled that he’s getting (the rematch) and hope we can start the negotiations and get the fight done,” Schaefer also told ESPN.

“Amir and Lamont are both terrific young men and athletes who fought their hearts out in Washington in December and I’m sure this decision will get applause by fight fans around the world. The rematch will be one of the most anticipate fights of 2012 because both guys are exciting, young and I think it’s exactly the kind of fight people want to see.”
