American football coach resigns after the most ill-advised 'joke' survey ever

Another bizarre tale from the mad, mad world of American high school football…

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL is a pretty serious business over in America, so it stands to reason that coaches will try almost everything in their power to motivate and inspire their teenage charges.

This will to win can lead to some pretty ludicrous decisions though, as Buffalo High School head coach (and school guidance counselor) Pat Lynch showed last month.

The Advocate reports that in the lead-up to this season’s play-offs, Lynch distributed a “Hurt Feelings Report” to the squad which mockingly invited them to provide details of how their “sensitive little feelings” had been hurt.

Lynch’s form, which can be seen in its entirety here, was filled with homophobic and sexist terms which understandably raised more than a few eyebrows [reader discretion advised]:

The survey, under a list of reasons for hurt feelings, includes such choices as “I am a queer,” “I am a pussy,” “I am a little bitch,” and “I have woman like hormones.” It asks for the name of the “little sissy filing report” and his “girly-man signature,” plus the “real-man signature” of the person accused of causing hurt feelings.

Once details began to circulate, it didn’t take long before an apologetic Lynch — who led the school to 12 playoff appearances and two state titles since 1998 — was asked to resign by the trustees of the Johnson County School Board.

He was, however, permitted to remain on in his role as the school’s guidance counselor.
