Xabi Alonso puts his feet up at Madrid with new two-year deal

The midfielder took to Twitter to gloat about the extension.

REAL MADRID MIDFIELDER Xabi Alonso has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 32-year-old’s deal was due to expire at the end of the season but coach Carlo Ancelotti repeatedly stated his desire to keep the Spain international, and he has now got his wish.

A brief statement on Real Madrid’s website confirmed the news yesterday, after the former Liverpool player had taken to Twitter to reveal his delight.

Having missed the the opening 10 weeks of the season with foot and groin injuries, Alonso returned in late October as a substitute in the 7-3 home triumph over Sevilla.

He has since made 10 starts and one sub appearance in all competitions but suffered a perforated ear drum in the 3-2 victory at Valencia in December.
