Allianz Football League round-up: Kerry earn narrow victory over Cork

There were a couple of eye-raising results today, including Down beating Dublin and a Laois victory over Armagh.

KERRY CONTINUED THEIR recent good form with a victory over Cork today.

Jack O’Connor’s men led for the majority of the contest, with Anthony Maher, Darran O’Sullivan and Barry John Keane among the scorers, and were able to stave off the threat of a late Cork comeback.

Meanwhile, Dublin narrowly lost out to an Aidan Carr-inspired Down in Pairc Esler, despite a Kevin McManamon goal.

The result means that James McCartan’s side are guaranteed to remain in Division 1 next year.

Elsewhere, Donegal earned a comfortable 0-17 to 1-07 victory against Mayo.

An early Enda Varley goal indicated a shock was on the cards, but a flurry of points, including five from Michael Murphy and seven from Colm McFadden, helped Donegal regain control of the game, and they ultimately prevailed.

In the other Division 1 game of the day, Laois triumphed against Armagh by 1-15 to 1-10.

Armagh started brightly, but had Ciaran McKeever sent off before the second half began for an off the ball incident, and Paul Cahillane goal compounded the Ulster side’s misery, ensuring Laois claimed victory.
