Allez the lads! Obertan signs for Magpies

Newcastle United complete swoop for French winger on a five-year deal.

NEWCASTLE UNITED HAVE signed Gabriel Obertan from Manchester United.

The Frenchman was restricted in his team appearances at Old Trafford and has opted to pen a five-year deal at St James’ Park rather than fight for his place with the Premier League champions.

“I spoke with some of my friends and Newcastle is a big club with history in England, so it’s a great move,” the winger told the club’s website this afternoon.

“I’m just really happy to be here because this is still a big club for me. It wasn’t really a difficult decision to come here.

“I spent two good years in Manchester but it was a bit difficult with the competition and I really needed a club where I could play more games.”

The 22-year-old French player moved to Old Trafford from Bordeaux in the summer of 2009.
