LIVERPOOL HAVE COMPLETED the signing of Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen.
The 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract after completing a medical at the club’s Melwood training ground.
Goal.com understands that Allen has trebled is salary to 45,000 pounds-a-week wages, along with a two million pounds signing-on fee, after completing the 15m pounds move.
Allen, who impressed under Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City last season, becomes Liverpool’s second summer signing after Fabio Borini arrived from Roma last month.
“I feel incredible. Everyone knows the history of this club, it’s a massive club, and I’m delighted to have joined,” Allen said.
“The passion that people here have for football is something I share and I want to be part of that.
“I’m looking forward to being part of some great years ahead for Liverpool.”
Allen has spent the previous three weeks with the Great Britain men’s football squad on Olympic duty.
And Rodgers is thrilled to have obtained the services of the Welshman as he continues to instil his tried-and-tested philosophy at Anfield.
Rodgers added: “I’m absolutely delighted that Joe has made the decision to come with us on this journey.
“Joe is a player whose profile will fit perfectly with the ideas of this group. His ability to control and dominate the ball is an important ingredient in our attempt to gain success on the field.“Joe has had a fantastic education at Swansea City and will now begin the next chapter in his exciting career, and I wish him all the very best in what I’m sure will be a long and distinguished career here at Liverpool.”
Meanwhile, striker Craig Bellamy has left the club, signing a two-year contract with Cardiff City.
I can’t believe Bellamy is gone. He was a real grafter.
Another goal scorer leaves, another central midfielder who has had one good season and never scores joins.
I have a VERY bad feeling about how this season is going to go for the mighty reds.
Here’s hoping I’m wrong…
Sure ya could say that about RVP and there is clubs falling over themselves trying to get him he has been at arsenal for about six years and has had one complete good full year can’t keep on sayi ng only had one good season he played well when they got promoted and has proven he has the class for the premiership
How about some punctuation Gavin? Had to read that about 6 times to understand it. If I did understand it, you are saying Joe Allen has proved his premier league quality after one season and are also saying that RVP isn’t worth the money quoted in the papers because he’s only had one full injury free season? Is that correct? Gotta say that if you gave me an option of Allen for 15m or RVP for an extra 5m or 10m, I know who I would pick. Allen a good player but not great. He is young and has potential but you’ve gotta ask yourself if Rodgers wasn’t the manager would Liverpool still be looking to sign him?
Why would u sell Bellamy jeesh and I wouldnt mind if joe was a 5 million bench warmer but hes a 15 million starter
