THE GAA HAS has announced plans to cut ticket prices for the All-Ireland senior hurling final replay but the association is still in line for a €3m windfall after yesterday’s pulsating draw at Croke Park.
It’s the third year in a row in which the hurling decider has ended in a tie and like previous seasons, stand tickets will be reduced to €50 from €80 while a spot on the terrace will set fans back €25. Children will be entitled to €10 tickets, officials say.
82,179 spectators attended yesterday’s game and there will be another sellout crowd expected for the replay.
The Hawkeye system judged that John O’Dwyer’s late attempt from a free for Tipperary had drifted wide and the Premier county were denied a potentially dramatic winning score.
The classic encounter saw the teams tied at 3-22 to 1-28 to ensure there will be a replay for a third successive year. Kilkenny and Galway drew two years ago after Joe Canning’s late free while Domhnall O’Donovan was the Clare hero last year when his last-gasp point drew them level with Cork.
The replay has been fixed for Saturday, 27 September at 5pm in Croke Park with the All-Ireland ladies football final between Cork and Dublin set to be on Sunday, 28 September.
