Smith given all-clear on cruciate scare

Scans show that Sarsfields’ Alan Smith did not damage his knee ligaments in Sunday’s defeat to Ballymun Kickhams.

KILDARE’S ALAN SMITH expects to be back in action within a “few weeks” after getting the all-clear on his cruciate injury scare.

The Sarsfields man tweeted his relief after scans showed some swelling and minor muscle damage rather than a knee ligament problem which could have sidelined him for months.

Smith was forced off during the second half of last weekend’s Leinster SFC semi-final defeat to Ballymun Kickhams and immediately feared for the worst.

“Great news cruciate is fine,” he tweeted this afternoon. “Just bone swelling and damaged muscle back of the knee, few weeks rather than months roll on 2013. #relief”

Kildare begin their National Football League Divison 1 campaign when they host All-Ireland champions Donegal on 3 February.
