AFTER 22 YEARS as an analyst on Match of the Day, Alan Hansen is calling it a day.
The 58-year-old Scot, who made his name as a talented defender for Liverpool in the lat โ70s and โ80s, went into punditry after retiring from the game in 1991 where he teamed up with then presenter Des Lynham and Gary Lineker.
Perhaps his most famous moment on the BBCโs highlights show came on the opening day of the 1995/96 season.
Having watched a youthful Manchester United side lose out to Aston Villa, Hansen declared that โyou canโt win anything with kidsโ. Alex Fergusonโs team went on to do the double that year.
Iโve had a great 22 years and the Premier League has gone from strength to strength,โ he said.
While he appeared for the final time on MOTD last night, Hansen will feature on the BBCโs World Cup coverage this summer before retiring from television.
Here are some of his most memorable moments (that we could find on YouTube):
The final appearance
His phone goes off live on air
Trolling Michael Owen and Jason Roberts
โYou canโt win anything with kidsโ
He picked his team of the season on MOTD last night โ it included Mertesacker. Iโll say no more.
Per and kosienly had the most consecutive clean sheets all season
So what โ those games were probably against bottom half side where they dominated possession. Mertesackerโs display in the league game against Liverpool at Anfield was truly shocking. Koscielny decent player alright tho.
Thats some amount of highlights he has had in 22 years. Useless pundit and sounds like hes had multiple strokes
Why is he retiring anyway?
Remember the time he said an Argentine defender warranted shooting for a mistake heโd made, the day after a Columbian player was shot and killed over an own goal.
