Alan Dunbar wins British Amateur title

The Co Down youngster will now have the chance to compete in the British Open and the US Masters.

NORTHERN IRISH GOLFER Alan Dunbar has clinched the British Amateur Championship at Royal Troon in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old from Rathmore, Co Down, defeated Matthias Schwab of Austria after the pair were level going into the final hole of 36.

He follows on from Brian McElhinney in 2005 and Michael Hoey in 2001 and the win ensures him qualification to the British Open and next year’s US Masters at Augusta.
