AIDEN MCGEADY IS the latest player to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly against Wales next Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the FAI, the winger sustained a knee injury during a training session with Spartak Moscow.
The 27-year-old midfielder follows Anthony Pilkington, Simon Cox and David Forde to withdraw from the game which was supposed to give Giovanni Trapattoni a chance to assess his options ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifiers with Sweden and Austria.
No replacement has yet been named.
Players are looking forward for the season to start. . They don’t need stupid international games this time of year
Have to agree!!! No point in this game whatsoever!!
When is there ever a point in having friendly internationals?
What about preparation for the world cup qualifier next month ????
What about preparation for the world cup qualifier next month
in fairness the only reason this is considered a preparation game for the WC qualifiers is because Trapp does not know his best xi
With no McClean, Pilkington or MCGeady doesn’t that only leave Brady as our only real winger? No doubt if Cox was fit Trapp would probably start him or Walters on one side. The only thing I can think that he’ll do is move Coleman to right wing and play one from Kelly, McShane or O’Shea at RB. It’s times like this that O’Brien shoul dbe in there as he can cover wing or fullback.
Why was Henderson called up when he wasn’t called up for the Spain game? I think that Norwich GK who could qualify for us may have been called up for England too.
No loss. If he could cross a ball he would be half decent instead of the headless chicken he portrays most of the time.
no loss… headless chicken…he couldn’t cross the road!
No Loss, couldn’t pass the sugar!
..or salt! :D
Or wind
the parcel!
Go
Thank god! Won’t have to constantly shout at the telly when he makes a bags of a cross or pass or touch or run or being on the pitch
Should of stayed at Celtic he has gone downhill since leaving
Obviously mcgeady can be frustrating, but joint highest assists in the euro qualifiers, so he’s doin something right. Hopefully Brady gets a start, I think he’s gonna be a top player, great composure on the ball
International tiddlywinks in August….what else do they expect?
Obviously no loss in a friendly but would be if the game had relevance, been Ireland’s best player for about two years, albeit not all the time…
Mc geady shouldnt even be playing for ireland as he is scottish true & true.he was born & raised in scotland of scottish parents so why is he playing for ireland.scottish grandparents? Rediculous if you ask me.
Massive boost as Aiden Mcgeady pulls out of the Ireland squad
The bloke is a no talent bum
Abit like you then so…..
Says gick boy
Mcgreedy is no loss
Mcgeedy not playing is a GOOD thing.
Has to be one of the more wasteful Irish players in recent years.
Have ability but just doesn’t deliver
5 players drop out of the squad and he calls up Stephen Henderson as the only replacement.
Shane Long, Conor Sammon and Jon Walters are the only strikers in the squad and Paddy Madden is only on stand by.
Either call him up or leave him out. Enough of this stand by nonsense that he perseveres with.
Sammon and Walters are both not good enough. Neither is Cox.
Let Madden train with the team. He could even get game time if there are any more withdrawals.
We cannot forget Madden or indeed Stokes.
We cannot rely on Keane to score goals anymore. We won’t be playing Faroe Islands in every match.
Just be better off getting rid of the soccerball team their a waste of time and money.
