Mayo's Aidan O'Shea facing club v country fixture dilemma

The International Rules second test and a county final await the Mayo midfielder next weekend.

A FIXTURES DILEMMA faces Aidan O’Shea ahead of next weekend’s second International Rules test.

Ireland face Australia next Saturday night in Croke Park with O’Shea having been part of Paul Earley’s 23-man squad that enjoyed a 57-35 victory in last Saturday’s first test at Kingspan Breffni Park.

But next Sunday his club Breaffy are involved in the Mayo county senior football final against Castlebar Mitchels at Elverys MacHale Park.

The game is a massive occasion for Breaffy as it marks their first ever appearance in a Mayo senior decider.

O’Shea netted the only goal of the game when Breaffy got the better of Charlestown by 1-15 to 1-6 in their semi-final tie last Sunday week.

The Mayo  midfielder was an interchange player when Ireland won last Saturday’s first International Rules test but could now be unavailable for selection for the second test.

The issue had cropped up last weekend for Donegal’s Michael Murphy and AFL Carlton player Zach Tuohy but both did line out for Ireland in last Saturday’s match.

And on Sunday, Murphy struck 1-5 to help his club Glenswilly win the Donegal senior football decider while Tuohy came on as a substitute when Portlaoise completed a seven-in-a-row of county senior titles against Arles-Killeen in O’Moore Park.

I don’t see what the dilema is. Play for Ireland in something that most people don’t care about or play for your club in a county final. Considering most intercounty players rate winning with their club more special than winning an All Ireland this should be a no brainer. He shouldn’t even try play the two, why risk injury playing in a mickey mouse game!!

The dilema is that a good lot of players would like to play for their country cause they mightn’t get the chance again.these lads are armature’s.
but the club will come first 99% of the time.so players want to play both.
    The problem is the gaa,
Their only looking at keeping it going so the big wigs can get a nice free holiday to oz next year.
