AIDAN O’MAHONY’S BOOTS from Kerry’s All-Ireland football final have raised a whopping €28,000 for a special needs facility in Killarney at a London auction.

O’Mahony had initially given the boots to Diarmuid De Bhillis – an 11-year-old boy from Killarney with special needs – while the Kerry players did their lap of honour after beating Donegal last month.
According to the Irish Independent, his family later contacted O’Mahony to enquire if they could raffle the boots to raise much needed funds for the “Home from Home” after-school care facility that Diarmuid attends.
The service, which provides respite to parents and siblings of children with special needs, largely relies on voluntary funding and caters for almost 20 families in Kerry.
The Kerry defender showed his class when he insisted on travelling over to the English capital to auction the boots at the Kerry Association in London’s dinner dance, where a Kerry London businessman made the winning bid.
