THE SHORTLISTS FOR the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards have been announced, with few surprises on either list.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is the only player to appear on both lists, and he is joined by his City team-mates David Silva and Joe Hart in the senior nominations.

Robin van Persie – who will be the clear favourite for that award – Wayne Rooney of Manchester United and Tottenham’s Scott Parker complete the six.

Aguero heads the group of players vying for the title of Young Player of the Year, along with Gareth Bale, who won last year’s senior award.

Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kyle Walker are the other names in the frame with, surprisingly, no nod for Sunderland’s Irish winger James McClean, who has taken the Premier League by storm since being given his debut by Martin O’Neill.

The awards will be handed out on Sunday, 22 April where the PFA teams of the year for the Premier League, Championship, League One and Two will also be announced.
