Missing Out

Na Piarsaigh attacker Adrian Breen breaks collarbone and will miss All-Ireland semi-final

The Limerick champions are playing Portumna on February 8th.

MUNSTER CHAMPIONS NA Piarsaigh will have to plan without Adrian Breen for their AIB All-Ireland SHC club semi-final after he broke his collar bone in a recent challenge game.

Breen caught the eye in Na Piarsaigh’s Munster final win last November when he bagged 1-2 against Sixmilebridge.

But after damaging his collarbone against Fitzgibbon Cup side Cork IT, he will miss the Limerick club’s match on Saturday February 8th against Portumna in Semple Stadium.

“It’s very unfortunate”, admitted Na Piarsaigh coach Sean Stack. “He was playing really well for us. It was just an accidental challenge in a game but it’s the second time in a year that he’s damaged the collar bone so he’s now out.”

Stack is keeping his fingers crossed that his players involved in Fitzgibbon Cup and Dr Harty Cup action this week, will emerge unscathed.

“Today Alan Dempsey is playing for Limerick IT and Kevin Downes is playing for NUI Galway. The Fitzgibbon is a huge competition for those lads, they’re on scholarships so I understand why they’re looking to play in them.

“They won’t be playing in the next group games then next week as that’s only a few days before we play Portumna. Then we’ve four players from our panel involved with Ardscoil Rís in the Dr Harty Cup semi-final on Saturday.

“The players involved are Michael Casey, Josh O’Halloran, Ronan Lynch and Gordon Brown. Michael started in the Munster final, so again we’re just hoping they all come through okay.”
