8 types of runners you’ll meet at a marathon

Whether it’s Cork, Dublin or you’re competing in this weekend… expect to share the road with this lot.

1. The genuine contender

Running is not just a hobby but their career. No messing around here, you can put money on them crossing the line before 95% of the other competitors.

2. The bloke who insists on cross-dressing

It may look thrown together but they’ve been planning their outfit all year. Generally more concerned with getting papped than making an impact in the race.

3. The groups

It’s all about strength in numbers for this band of merry joggers. Usually wearing matching t-shirts advertising their charity name.

4. The celebrity

Only after they pass you coming around St Stephen’s Green do you realise it’s ‘your man off the radio’.

5. The lad who has got no running left in him

They’ve given their all and literally can’t go on any further. Call the medics, quick!

7. The casual walker

Not going anywhere fast but who cares, they’re out to enjoy their Bank Holiday Monday.

8. The fancy dress brigade

They come in all shapes and sizes and add colour and character to the race.

The guy in the green thong would be all the incentive you’d need to become an elite runner…..or at least a faster runner than him ;)

Gillian, I can agree that he’s good motivation to run faster.

I’ve encountered him at three races so far, each time he has the same “outfit”, you don’t want to get stuck running behind him! :-)

I’d just be hoping he’d remember to make sure “something” doesn’t decide to fall out, or get excited about anything.

Thats me in the mankini… no chafing per-say… I got a lot of crazy looks, really dont know why.
I would not do it again unless I got €10,000 for charity, but would be open for sponsorship to do it again for the Dublin one in October.

Look at the tan lines on him. Has he been training wearing that outfit?!! He’s also shaved down below.

I did the flora woman’s mini marathon last year with my 12 year old daughter .

The men don’t get a medal when they finish, I think they should, they dress up, add enjoyment to the day and raise funds for good causes.

Then you get the ones who skip out parts of the course and still get the medal ( you know who you are).

The sort who is just a mega attention seeker who tells the whole town they are doing the marathon for charity but really they don’t care about the charity they just care about self promotion.

Most of those pictures are Dublin Marathon, which is in October. Not to be confused with Monday’s event in Dublin. Both of which are great though!
