After last night's shenanigans, here are 8 more epic penalty shootouts

Following West Ham’s 9-8 win over Everton, we look at similarly high-scoring affairs from down through the years.

1. Ivory Coast 12-11 Cameroon (2006 African Nations Cup quarter-finals)

A RARITY WHEREBY all 22 players scored at their first attempt, before the normally reliable Samuel Eto’o slipped up, enabling the Ivory Coast to progress at Cameroon’s expense.

2. Ivory Coast 11-10 Ghana (1992 African Nations Cup final)

Another high-scoring penalty shootout in which Ivory Coast were again coincidentally involved, they ultimately showed the requisite patience to hold their nerve, winning their first African Nations Cup as a result.

3. Liverpool 14-13 Middlesbrough (2014 League Cup)

Having drawn 2-2 in normal time, Liverpool were under big pressure to beat their Championship opponents, having suffered a poor run in the league. They eventually succeeded by winning 14-13 — a result that will be looked back upon as key if they do go on and win this year’s Capital One Cup.

4. Olympiakos 15-14 AEK Athens (2009 Greek Cup final)

The match itself was a thriller, as it ended in a 4-4 draw, and the shootout didn’t disappoint either, with Olympiakos finally prevailing despite missing two earlier chances to do so.

5. Worcester City 13-14 Scunthorpe (2014 FA Cup)

Officially the longest shootout in FA Cup history, the non-league club were ultimately left broken-hearted despite a valiant effort against their League One counterparts.

6. Brockenhurst 15-14 Andover Town (2013 Hampshire Senior Cup)

This obscure match will be remembered in British footballing history as the game in which the most consecutive penalty kicks were scored (or at least, until another match beats the record anyway).

7. Dagenham & Redbridge 14-13 Leyton Orient (2011 Football League Trophy)

Incredibly, just one of the 28 spot kicks taken in this shootout was missed.

8. Genclerbirligi 18-17 Galatasaray (1996 Turkish FA Cup)

Another unbelievably accurate and high-scoring shootout in which just one penalty was missed.
