Top 5 Six Nations plays of the week

These incidents didn’t always make a big impact on the game, but they did look kinda cool.

ONE DOWN, FOUR JAM-packed weekends of international rugby to go.

It’s almost too much for one body to consume without completely flouting the words ‘in moderation’. So, with that in mind, we’ve condensed the weekend down into five delicious bitesize morsels of brilliance that might not make it in to some highlights packages.

Here are our top five Six Nations plays of the week:

1. Jonathan Sexton breaks the game wide open

Ireland v Scotland was a pretty dull affair in the first 30 minutes with Ireland struggling to escape their own half… until Sexton spotted a smattering of front rows stranded in midfield and ran right for them.

2. Louis Picamoles shows sleight of hand

It didn’t result in anything better than an England line-out, but you’ve got to love the big Toulouse number eight crashing through two tackles before delivering a back-handed offload to Dimitri Szarzewski

image3. Owen Farrell picks the right Billy

Saracens out-half showed that he’s not content with being a hard-tackling, big-kicking out-half; he likes to run and pass a bit too.

The millisecond delay he puts on this pass to put Billy Vunipola rather than Billy Twelvetrees through the gap is just glorious.

4. Sergio (with those hands) should play piano

Another brilliant individual play that didn’t bring a reward, Parisse’s one-handed line-out take is only made better by the way he keeps Alun Wyn Jones out of the maul while he is on his way out. Classy and cheeky.

image5. Danny the champion of the drop-goal

Okay, so the advantage call made the French line-speed here take on all the characteristics of escargot, but look at that snap drop-goal. Look at it!
