MOST OF TOTTENHAM’S new signings have been criticised since joining the club, and this is perhaps understandable after they spent over £100million in the summer on new players only to lose 6-0 to Man City recently.
Yet a player who appears to be one of the club’s more astute purchases is the Brazilian international Paulinho.
Of course, he is far from the finished product, but if Paulinho can improve his finishing slightly, Tottenham could have a midfielder capable of scoring 10-plus goals a season.
2. How many games can David Moyes afford to lose?
Every time Man United suffer a setback under David Moyes, the message is always the same.
Well informed and reliable sources close to the club, including Gary Neville, have continually insisted that Moyes isn’t going anywhere and that the Scottish manager will be given time to build a team — as his predecessor Alex Ferguson was.
Nevertheless, two home losses in a row against Newcastle and Everton has prompted many to question whether such patience is justified.

If their rivals for a Champions League spot continue to pull away from them in the table after the New Year, it would be no surprise if drastic action was taken, despite suggestions to the contrary.
3. Teams now fear coming to Anfield
In the days of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley, Anfield was regarded by opposition teams as one of the most formidable grounds to visit in football.
The legendary stadium has not quite held the same standing in recent times, though if Liverpool continue to perform as they have been of late, it may well regain its foreboding aura.
They have nine goals in their past two games alone — over half of which have been scored by Luis Suarez, who is unquestionably the best striker in the league at the moment — against Norwich and then West Ham yesterday.
And with Suarez in such fine form, the Uruguayan may well just propel the Reds to a Champions League spot.
4. Man City look mentally fragile
Football writer and economist Simon Kuper has, in the past, calculated that statistically, the advantage of playing at home is the equivalent of a one-goal head start on average.
However, irrespective of such claims, Man City’s drastic inability to emulate their home form outside of the Etihad remains baffling.
Whereas they have routinely thrashed the likes of Tottenham and Man United at their own ground, away, they have been defeated by Cardiff, Sunderland and Aston Villa, while also failing to beat Southampton yesterday.
It’s difficult to identify precisely why they suffer from such inconsistency, yet it’s patently bad news for their title ambitions, as a team’s tendency to play to their potential only sporadically is suggestive of both mental fragility and a lack of leadership.
5. Everton show their Champions League credentials

Roberto Martinez looks to have augmented the tidy side, built by David Moyes, with a few gems and astute signings. Gareth Barry and James McCarthy held sway for large patches of this afternoon’s Premier League draw at The Emirates and full-backs Seamus Coleman and Bryan Oviedo were a constant threat.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was forced to dip into his bench to turn the tide and his triple substitution paid off as Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott set up Mesut Ozil’s goal. Martinez responded by throwing on 19-year-old Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu. The teenager scored a cracking goal within minutes of his intriduction and confirmed the Toffees as a side with realistic Champions League ambitions.
In fairness, Moyes inherited a shambles. Weak midfield, Rooney disillusioned and an ageing defence with nothing special coming through. RVP led the line in a poor premier league last season.
I hope the Manchester United players are looking at the Premier League table. 9th place in the table. Its not good enough, They should be ashamed of themselves. They went from being Champions to Chumps. WAKE UP FFS AND START PLAYING LIKE CHAMPIONS.
John , I’m sure you can agree RVP goals covered up a lot of united cracks last year. United were awful in a lot of games last year but the ferguson factor got them points. They were ordinary last year and god awful this.
Very true Mark. Uniteds team is nothing short of embarrassing when compared to arsenal chelsea or city’s. We need to spend a fortune and I don’t see that happening.
You’re spot on mark, RVP was so good last season, now he’s notably absent. United on the whole are quite ordinary, their refusal or inability to address the obvious weaknesses in the squad is now becoming apparent for all to see. Unless some notable acquisitions are made, they may suffer the long decline that Liverpool went through.
I’m not nelly it’s just you and some other united supporters said at the start of the season he was delusional and mad for saying united where in decline.do you still think what he said was crazy talk
Karol, not that I have to explain myself to the likes if you but ok. ” united’s squad is a joke”. Actually utd’s squad is the exact same that ran away with the league last year so stop saying stupid things.
Has anyone got any Kleenex handy for Davin? He need to dry his little eyes badly.
Fergie and Rvp were the reason united won the title last season. Fergie working miracles with a poor squad and rvp dragging us back from being behind in almost every match.
Fergie is now gone and rvp is a shadow of the man we knew last season.
Add all this to now being led by David ‘I haven’t got the first clue what I’m doing’ Moyes and his pitiful back room staff and it’s a recipe for mediocracy as is being shown everytime we take to the pitch.
As I said earlier, if you knew anything about football you would know that United’s squad pales in comparison with Chelsea’s, Arsenal’s, and Man City’s. They have an embarrassment of riches in their first team and in their squad, yet we are fielding a 40 year old and the likes of Cleverly or Anderson in our midfield, both of whom are absolutely horrendous. Nani, young, Welbeck, smalling, and Ferdinand are also atrocious players.
We need to spend big or we will be left behind. But first things first David Moyes needs to go.
A plastic fan is one who accepts the way things are. A real fan wants the best for their club. Go back to sleep. You probably started supporting united 3 years ago. I’ve been supporting them since before Fergie even arrived.
No a plastic fan is one who loses belief after a few bad results and wants manager and players out. Who the hell let you outa the kitchen?,go make some sandwiches.
looooool 2 utd ‘fans’ arguing over who knows the least about football, calm down lads, ye both know equally little about footy, hence the utd ‘support’ (cant stop laughing)
I live in Islington and watched the game last night in my local, which is quite popular with Gooner supporters. I’ve never in all my years living there have seen optimism among Arsenal fans, they were in full voice after the game and it was quite refreshing to witness considering the usual doom and gloom of their normal demeanour.
Manu fan, but delighted with the form of the Irish Evortonians. These guys are asking serious questions of everyone they encounter. O’Neill won’t be immune to this I hope….
On another note….was never a fan of Stephen Ireland, but, have to say, he is shining a very bright light in the eyes of the new Irish management team now….
Great as an Evertonian to see two Irish players playing such a key role in the great season we’re having. When Gibson returns from injury it’ll be three, and hopefully Shane Duffy will come through too. Let’s not forget, we always have been, and always will be, the club of the Irish on Merseyside
This team are getting better with every game. They are a great blend of youth and experience. Roberto Martinez has instilled huge belief in these players and now they are starting to believe in themselves. They will challenge not just for the Champions League places this season, but for the League itself.
Not a hope. The only challengers to the title are City, Arsenal and possibly Chelsea (Squad depth and cash to burn). Liverpool, Spurs and Everton will be battling for Europe.
Except it’s not early season anymore. Uniteds comebacks in the past have been without rich rich Russian and Arab teams in dominance. #outofit #nochampsleague
Yeah, it’d be different if United were playing good ball and if they had a strong squad. Rooney has been carrying you’s all season! Top 4 will be a struggle!
Getting worried? Ye had it good for so long, just another team without Ferguson. Some very ordinary players in your squad, along with a handful good ones. Squad with no confidence, midfield looks very poor especially without Carrick
@Sam,Darren. Start of the season I was sure Chelsea or City would run away with it,just by their squads being so good. And it might come to them yet because as good as the Pool and Gunners have been I feel they’re 2 injuries away from trouble. I’d be content if utd got top 4.
Mangers’ being given time is completely different now than back in 1986. Champions league is a must for debt-ridden Man Utd or moyes will be gone. Man city to lose interest, Arsenal to implode as usual, chelsea to win.
Comparing the Utd of today and the Utd of the late 80′s is silly by the author. The club is in a completely different situation now rather than then.
When Ferguson took over, they were a mid table club. He turned them around to get them where they are now.
On the other hand, Moyes inherited a league winning side and has demotivated them.
If the Utd fans continue to compare the start of Moyes reign to Fergusons, they are simply ignoring the facts.
Moyes is, at best, a 8th to 5th place manager, and it is showing now.
He thought Everton was holding him back. But now we can see that he was Holding Everton back.
If Moyes wasn’t a British manager he’d be getting ripped apart in the press. If it was Jurgen Klopp in charge of this wretched campaign he’d be hounded out by the Sun and the likes. I’d give Moyes the benefit of the doubt and give him till the end of the season and if he doesn’t finish in the top four sack him. The club can’t afford anymore seasons of mediocrity after this one they need the European money to survive with the crippling debts.
Does the fact that Martinez has done a fantastic job with more or less the same Everton squad that Moyes had not prove that Moyes is just an average manager and was the wrong choice for that club ? He only got the job because of Ferguson’s insistence that Moyes succeed him. COYS !
Undoubtedly more competitive league this year. A ‘bad’ team though can’t win the league by 11 points last April and take the second best team in Germany apart 2 weeks ago away.
Converting chances in league and center mid are the main issues. Fletcher is actually a massive void. Can’t see arsenal showing enough bottle but it’s certainly good to have teams fighting at the top with a bit of hunger again.
As much as I’d like to laugh at the fall from grace of Man United, I’m a very concerned Chelsea fan. There is something seriously missing up front, we need a proven finisher. How many times must Chelsea lose bright young stars. We pushed Daniel Sturidge out of the club and Jose seems determined to push Lukaku out, not to mention the treatment of fine players like Mata and De Bruyne. I’m at a loss as to why we paid for Willian only to never play him. Getting Eto’o is a joke, even if he was free his weekly salary is a huge waste of money.

I want david moyes to stay, he’s doing a grand job :-)
Id be more concerned about finishing in top 4 if I was you #eraisover
Was a bit weird until I saw you having that conversation with yourself. Being schizo is totally cool in my books, bro. Go for it!!
D’ya hear the M.U. supporters shop have now started selling the commemorative David Moyles Fruit Bowl – it looks perfect in middle of the table!
Mid table respectability is a strong possibility. Well done Agent Moyes
Everton looking good. And its Irish members to the fore Especially gratifying Michael
In fairness, Moyes inherited a shambles. Weak midfield, Rooney disillusioned and an ageing defence with nothing special coming through. RVP led the line in a poor premier league last season.
Rooney is the only player at his best this season.
This season, yes. So far so good.
Hes playing his best football, but if Man U keep suffering, I wonder if Rooney will push for a January move, like Torres did…
What about Suarez karol?
What about him elephant?
Nelly,
You do realise that Suarez doesn’t play for united right?
The same shambles that won the league last season?
Whenever the team lost, why is it always the manager to blame? It’s not fair.
Moyes will probably be given till the end of the season, but failure to qualify for the Champions League will see him out on his ginger arse.
I hope the Manchester United players are looking at the Premier League table. 9th place in the table. Its not good enough, They should be ashamed of themselves. They went from being Champions to Chumps. WAKE UP FFS AND START PLAYING LIKE CHAMPIONS.

Hey, there’s no we ! I’m not a united fan
Yes, but I am. Hence the we.
You’re an embarrassment to the fan base.
Lol!
Karol do you remember what nelly predicted at that start of the season and you laughed at him
Do you really think I don’t believe that you are Nelly?
Davin,
Explain yourself. Uniteds squad is a joke. If you can’t see that then you haven’t got a clue about football.
I’m not nelly it’s just you and some other united supporters said at the start of the season he was delusional and mad for saying united where in decline.do you still think what he said was crazy talk
No.1 You clearly are Nelly.
No.2 As I said at the start of the season, Moyes should never have been appointed manager and once he goes we will be on the road to recovery.
No.3 You are clearly Nelly.
Karol, not that I have to explain myself to the likes if you but ok. ” united’s squad is a joke”. Actually utd’s squad is the exact same that ran away with the league last year so stop saying stupid things.
Sorry davin, If you think that squad is good then Karol is spot on, you haven’t a clue.
So the squad that easily won the league last year are now s***? Yeah, good one. Back under your bridge.
Yup, completely clueless…
Has anyone got any Kleenex handy for Davin? He need to dry his little eyes badly.

Oh, and you’re an imbecile.
What a plastic fan you are,why don’t you just go support city like the rest of the f****tards.
No Davin,
A plastic fan is one who accepts the way things are. A real fan wants the best for their club. Go back to sleep. You probably started supporting united 3 years ago. I’ve been supporting them since before Fergie even arrived.
By the way,
F*ck has four letters.
No a plastic fan is one who loses belief after a few bad results and wants manager and players out. Who the hell let you outa the kitchen?,go make some sandwiches.
By the way, stop liking your own posts ya douche.
You really are a simple human. Come back to me when you have the first clue about football. Bye bye Gavin
I’d imagine a therapist would call you complicated all right. I’ll be right here, enjoy your Liverpool duvet you’re getting for crimbo. Bye Carol.
Sleep well Gavin. Night night.
Sorry Karol, but F*ck has 3 letters and a star.
Absolutely clueless. It’s funny.
Don’t be sorry Graham. You’re just a bit slow. It’s not your fault.
Your attempts to goad are clueless and laughable. Go back to YouTube and talk down to 12 year olds ,that’s the level of trolling you’re displaying.
looooool 2 utd ‘fans’ arguing over who knows the least about football, calm down lads, ye both know equally little about footy, hence the utd ‘support’ (cant stop laughing)
Jesus nelly how many accounts have you got? (Shakes head in embarrassment for nelly).
Oh and navin or Gavin or whatever your name is, sleep now.
Arsenal v Everton was a cracking game. Both teams played great stuff. Gutted that Giroud ‘s last minute rocket hit the crossbar tho. COYG!
I live in Islington and watched the game last night in my local, which is quite popular with Gooner supporters. This is the sort of lazy and uninformed analysis you’d associate with your average fan of the Premier League.
More early season tripe, new to this sport ?
Except it’s not early season anymore. Uniteds comebacks in the past have been without rich rich Russian and Arab teams in dominance. #outofit #nochampsleague
Tis more mid season than early season…sure we will be in the 2nd half of the season very soon…
Just saying
15 out of 38,early days. A lot can change.
Whats half of 38 genius?
More than 15. Thus not half.
Very soon I said,very soon
Yeah ok. It’s way to early to assume anything really,a lot of points to play for this time of year. That’s all I’m saying really.
I think david moyes is doing a fantastic job bringing United where they belong give him plenty of time.YNWA
Ugh. More like YAWN.
I agree, its very close any team in top 9 could finish in top 4,well maybe except Newcastle, and maybe Everton
Yeah, it’d be different if United were playing good ball and if they had a strong squad. Rooney has been carrying you’s all season! Top 4 will be a struggle!

Yeah if United buy a player or 2 it will save them from a 30 year league title drought. Ridiculous my dear Watson.

Converting chances in league and center mid are the main issues. Fletcher is actually a massive void. Can’t see arsenal showing enough bottle but it’s certainly good to have teams fighting at the top with a bit of hunger again.
Talk up Liverpool…. Talk down everyone else…. Such journalistic objectivity!
Well Liverpool were the big winners this weekend
And I cannot remember the last time that happened… yippee!
