FIVE FOR All-Ireland champions Kerry, four for All-Ireland finalists Donegal and three apiece for beaten semi-finalists Dublin and Mayo.
That’s the breakdown from the 2014 GAA-GPA Opel Allstar football awards, which have been officially announced this morning. The awards will be presented at tomorrow night’s banquet, where the hurling team will also be revealed.
Kerry lead the way with Paul Murphy, Peter Crowley, David Moran, Kieran Donaghy and James O’Donoghue all honoured. Donegal land four awards through Paul Durcan, Neil McGee, Neil Gallagher and Michael Murphy.

Last year’s champions Dublin get awards for James McCarthy, Paul Flynn and Diarmuid Connolly. Finally Mayo trio Keith Higgins, Colm Boyle and Cillian O’Connor will all get recognized for their performances as well.
There are six first-time winners in Paul Murphy, James McCarthy, Peter Crowley, David Moran, Diarmuid Connolly and Cillian O’Connor. Only four players survive from last year’s Allstar team in Higgins, Boyle, Flynn and O’Donoghue.
For Higgins and Flynn, it is further evidence of their remarkable consistency. Higgins wins his third successive award while Flynn lands an Allstar for a fourth year in a row.

Indeed. But I’m sure his current tally of six All Irelands and many more Leinster medals across all codes and levels will be of some comfort to him!!!!
Two for the county, two with the club, Dublin Colleges won the colleges hurling All Ireland with him on the team and he won an All Ireland Feile with St. Vincents in 2000.
A feile….. ffs sake, that clutching at straws. You’ll probably tell us now that his 6 all-irelands will equate him to those won by the Kerry greats.
I hear he won on a scratch card too, did you count that?
Aidan o Mahoney robbed of an Allstar, James mc C was part of the backline that was taken apart by Donegal team, their only real test this year, #badcall
How in the name of Jesus could they give Donaghy one he only started 2 games and McCarthy the first team the Dubs met they got destroyed it’s lost the small bit of credibility it had
Ya Sean if you were playing a match tomorrow twud b a fine team, but if the criteria is continuous assessment over the year Donaghys selection is inexplicable. Anyway the good news is it had only a tiny bit of credibility to loose anyway.
Donaghy was unstoppable in the games he played. No one could handle him. He did the business in the BIGGEST games of the year and against the BEST teams. Without him, Kerry would not have one the All Ireland. If that doesnt merit an All Star, then what does?
Dessie Mone played a Division 2 final in April and 6 championship matches this season . He was Man of The Match in 4 of those 7 matches . If that is not playing at a consistently high level I don’t know what is .
Nonsense. The man had lots of game time but played very little actual ball all year and along with Fionn fitz was prob the most cynical player in this years championship with their consistent and illegal disrupting of the opposing teams momentum. Is it just that they’re from Kerry that a) they didn’t get pulled during the games and b) it barely gets mentioned post match? I don’t know but If a northern team had have won the AI playing like Kerry did Spillane would be holding both players up as examples of puke football in my opinion. An all star for Walsh would’ve sent out a bad message in my opinion
Clothes line tackle was walshs first and possibly only major contrib to all Ireland final, very cynical and should’ve been booked, wasn’t. Fitzgerald should’ve had 4 black cards against mayo over both games and was hooked in the final cause he was in danger of another. Both stopped mayo and Donegal momentum illegally time and again, call it cynical or tactical or whatever you like but I don’t think players should be getting awards for playing in that manner.
Yea he did,and I’m not denying that but he hardly played all year so my point is does he deserve an all-star over guys who played well in 5or6 games but never got to the semi finals
O’Mahoney probably deserves the nod over McCarthy but I’d also have either MacAuley or one of the O’Sheas over Gallagher at midfield. not a bad pick overall though, Donaghy the obvious controversy but honestly after they moved Murphy to half forward there was really nobody else deserving of the spot there’d be no All Ireland in Kerry without his impact
The selection process is so short sighted. 99% of the team is made up of the teams involved in the semi finals.
I agree that they are the best 4 teams in the country but they need to look at the entire year including county championships to be fair.
If we’re talking about players that played well all year shane walsh gets an all star but that can’t happen because it was against lesser teams u have to judge a player against the best teams and best players

How is this only Diarmuid Connolly’s first All Star
Indeed. But I’m sure his current tally of six All Irelands and many more Leinster medals across all codes and levels will be of some comfort to him!!!!
Where you getting six from?
Two for the county, two with the club, Dublin Colleges won the colleges hurling All Ireland with him on the team and he won an All Ireland Feile with St. Vincents in 2000.

Because he’s a tw#t
Aidan o Mahoney robbed of an Allstar, James mc C was part of the backline that was taken apart by Donegal team, their only real test this year, #badcall
Aidan O Mahony can feel hard done by. A quick look at his trophy cabinet should cure that!
4 all stars in a row for flynn some acheivement
How in the name of Jesus could they give Donaghy one he only started 2 games and McCarthy the first team the Dubs met they got destroyed it’s lost the small bit of credibility it had

Swap Aidan O’Mahony for James mccarthy and its bang on
Dessie Mone played a Division 2 final in April and 6 championship matches this season . He was Man of The Match in 4 of those 7 matches . If that is not playing at a consistently high level I don’t know what is .
I’m sure the GAA already give enough to the third world without having to give an All Star to Monaghan
Delightful for Durcan. Despite the horrific goal in the final he’s been excellent all year.
Donnacha Walsh missing is strange
Nonsense. The man had lots of game time but played very little actual ball all year and along with Fionn fitz was prob the most cynical player in this years championship with their consistent and illegal disrupting of the opposing teams momentum. Just because fitzgerald got 1 BC against mayo doesnt make him a cynical player…an i dont know where ur goin with donnacha walsh being cynical
Clothes line tackle was walshs first and possibly only major contrib to all Ireland final, very cynical and should’ve been booked, wasn’t. McCarthy??? Played nobody until Donegal and then got destroyed. Frank McGlynn should be picking up his 2nd in his stead.
Delighted for the three dubs, especially Connolly.
Aidan oshea?
Seamus o Shea? Was terrific this year I thought
The whole process is flawed.
I knew Donaghy deserved one
the Donahey and McCarthy selection is Obviously a snub to the guys that actually played well. ..all year.
Donaghy had a huge say in the championship
Yea he did,and I’m not denying that but he hardly played all year so my point is does he deserve an all-star over guys who played well in 5or6 games but never got to the semi finals
Also Owen ,
Should McGee be excluded because donahey won the all Ireland for Kerry while he was marking him????
If you actually watched any games this year you would have seen that neil mcgee marked JOD in the final
McGee was marking oDonoghue and kept him scoreless brother Eamon was on Donaghy get your facts right
Thats one serious full forward line!
Both o shea’s deserve a place
O’Mahoney probably deserves the nod over McCarthy but I’d also have either MacAuley or one of the O’Sheas over Gallagher at midfield. not a bad pick overall though, Donaghy the obvious controversy but honestly after they moved Murphy to half forward there was really nobody else deserving of the spot there’d be no All Ireland in Kerry without his impact

Very flawed team selection.. Obviously listening too much to the media muppets
Lads colin o riordan from tipp should be in at wing neck an absolute force in all his games
Denis put down the crack pipe
