15 reasons why tomorrow night’s match won’t be as much craic as Poznan

Ireland play Poland at Lansdowne Road but we’re not expecting the removal of any footwear for the Boys in Green.

IRISH AND POLISH fans get reaquianted for the first time since last year’s Euro 2012 summer romance in Poznan.

An estimated 35,000 members of the Boys in Green descended onto the city for two weeks of good-spirited tomfoolery which will be remembered much more for the what happened off the field than on it.

The pre-match advertisements have been calling for Ireland to return the favour and show Polish fans a good time tomorrow night when the teams meet at Lansdowne Road. Somehow, however, we don’t see the atmosphere in a blizzardous Dublin 4 being comparable to a jam-packed Old Market Square in the middle of June.

Here’s why:

1. If you take your shoes off for the Boys in Green, there’s a good chance you’ll get frostbite

2. Eamon Keegan might not be attending

3. Angela Merkel won’t think you’re at work

4. Doing ‘the Poznan’ when you’re not in Poznan just isn’t as much fun

5. Shay, Duffer and Dunny aren’t around

6. Neither is Mario

7. The Luas isn’t green

8. We’ve never heard anyone singing the Home & Away theme tune on public transport in Dublin

9. The people of Dublin won’t miss you when you’re gone

10. George Hamilton won’t go quiet while you sing the Fields of Athenry

11. You’re unlikely to have any reason to say “Down with that sort of thing” or “Careful now”

12. The Aviva Stadium isn’t going to be full

13. It is not acceptable to go around looking like this…

or this…

and definitely not like this

14. You won’t see Roy Keane and his beard talking about “sing-songs”

15. John Delaney won’t… never mind

  • Number 16. Trap is still the manager.

Number 17. John Delaney gets paid by the tax payer more the leaders of elite countries and nothing and or nobody has questioned it.

Number 18. Ireland have no direction and a completely clueless manager who is destroying the team morale and future Irish teams. Believe it or not the quailty and players are there to qualify just pick the right ones in form with there clubs and build a relationship with the players who are in form and playing top level football with one or two exceptions i.e Doyle and Brady.

  • And number 19. Most of 1-16 was complete cringe watching it. Awful memories and embarrassing for the country getting humiliated in front of the whole world. It’s a football tournament not a who can get the pissed most and sing about it tournament. Accept average and that’s what you will get. It’s why delaney is still living it up spending your hard earned money like a king. what happened to the fighting Irish?

Yea we should have ripped the stadium apart and fought with police after losing each match. Only after booing our own team tho. Would that be better?

    • Yeh we shouldn’t bother qualifying again. It’s a disgrace that we even try. We should be more like those proud nations like Wales, Scotland, N Irl, Austria, Hungary, Norway, Finland et al and never embarrass ourselves on the international stage by actually getting into a tournament… We better do our best to lose to Sweden so, lest we make it to Rio and lose all our games again and us fans bring great shame to our nation, which has performed so admirably in other arenas of late… I’m mortified to think back to my fortnight in Poland last year, mortified and ashamed of my behaviour…
